Collateral Damage - the Review!

Now trending.
Hollywood It Girl, Francesca Leon, has just landed the biggest role of her career…one that could clinch an Oscar nomination and open doors. If she’s going to move her career to the next level and work with top directors, she has to nail this part — and keep her sexy, but unreliable leading man from screwing everything up.

Team Calder
Bad boy Calder Fox is the son of Hollywood royalty and fresh out of rehab after his best friend’s death sent him on a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol. While his fans still love him and the paparazzi stalk him, he’s never taken life, or anything about his career, seriously. He may be charming and drop-dead gorgeous, but if he doesn’t stay sober, he could ruin Frankie’s future and expose her long-hidden family secret to the voracious media.

Behind the scenes.
Things heat up during filming and have the potential to become hotter, deeper, and much more real. But can Frankie trust Calder with her secret? Or is he doomed to sabotage his own happiness yet again?

***I received this book in exchange for an honest review***
Readers first met Calder Fox in Picture Perfect. (Click here to see my review!) And as a reader I knew that he would be an intense story to read. A perfect blend of unobtainable and down to earth real is what Elisabeth accomplished when writing Francesca and Calder's story. You are introduced to Calder, and automatically except a challenge seeing as he is the product of the business. His parents worked in this business and he is a child star with a reputation that puts most others to shame. Deep down? He is struggling with his personal demons and his feeling unwelcome and not respected. He even feels this way around his new co-star, Francesca Leon. (Frankie to her friends and family.)
Frankie is another testament to Elisabeth's ability to write characters that are so real - you forget you don't actually have these fictional characters in your life. Frankie loves what she does. Acting has always been an escape for her. The hard part? Keeping her mom safe from the scrutiny that the paparazzi will serve if they found out their secret. She was not your typical Hollywood starlet, and was determined not to fall into Calder Fox's charm.
Sure, it was no mystery why A-list celebrities dropped their drawers for the 'Hollywood Fox,' but it pissed me off to know I could be affected by his charm.
Both Frankie and Fox need their current project to be successful for entirely different reasons, but help each other out because a friendship is formed and a genuine desire to see each other achieve greatness is there. Other desire, as well. The tension that forms in this "relationship for the press" is perfection to me. It is filled with tension, uncertainty and a whole lot of teasing.  They both feel what they are feeling, but their lack of confidence doesn't allow them to be open with each other. Instead, every real moment is brushed under the rug as fake or not as important as it feels to them. The teasing is my favorite part. Calder brings out the spontaneous side of Frankie, and it is epic.
"Fine. I was thinking about your cock. Your long, hard, manly cock. I walk to talk about your cock. All I want to do all day is discuss your cock. How it looks, what it feels like, how big it is. Cock, cock, cock. Satisfied?"
Elizabeth doesn't downplay the struggles with Calder's addiction or the fact that it is something he will always have to deal with. She sheds light on a serious and way to common issue today. The realness of his struggle was commendable. Nowadays, stories with serious issues are often handle in such a "Here is the issue - Now it is fixed" kind of way; that is takes away some validity to the story. Not here. Even when the story is being tied up, he fiddles with this One Day sobriety chip as a reminder.
With their story blooming before your eyes, you also get to see a story of family that is beautiful beyond words. Calder and Frankie's mom have this unique connection that I doubt either could explain.
"I know what it feels like to be broken, Frankie. I would never treat her any differently than the way I did. We might not be fighting the same war, but a battle is a battle."
This was my FAVORITE line from the book. Such profound words that can be applied to so many life situations. It spoke to be long after I read it.

Collateral Damage was a FIVE for me, and I am eager to read Elisabeth Grace's future work. Now, let's show this lady some Social Media LOVE!

Independence Falls Series

Full Exposure (Independence Falls #1)

Sara Jane Stone

No touching allowed . . .

After serving her country, Georgia Trulane craves adventure--and sex. She's set her sights on her brother's best friend--now her boss, since she took a temporary job as his nephew's live-in nanny. Only problem? Eric refuses to touch her. That doesn't stop Georgia from seducing him. But an earth-shattering encounter leaves her fully exposed, body and soul.

Eric has a long list of reasons to steer clear of the woman he has wanted for as long as he can remember. For one, he refuses to be her next thrill ride. When he claims her, it will be for good. But the attraction is undeniable, and the more they fight it, the stronger it pulls. But will it be enough to conquer their obstacles?

***
I've said it before, and I will say it again - the perks of being an Avon Addict are tremendous. I came across Sara Jane Stone in a conversation with a fellow addict, and knew I had to try the series. I have read books where the men are dealing with their demons from war, but never from a female's POV. An interesting take indeed.
Meet Georgia Trulane. Sister to one Liam Trulane. Served in the Army and was deployed to Afghanistan. Home and unsure as to what she wants to do with her life as a civilian - she signs on to be a Nanny to long-time friend and her brother's BEST friend,Eric Moore's nephew.
Meet Eric. Part businessman, part rough lumberjack - it was a potent combination. He is cautious with every stolen glance and interaction. A difficult task when his desire is down the hall in his home. The feeling is a mutual one.
Georgia is all about feeling alive, and Eric refuses to be just a thrill or a challenge she needs to conquer.
"This is more. Can't you see that? I've wanted you for so long it feels criminal."
Sara weaves a complex story of friends who have grown up together - know each other's weaknesses and flaws - but are seeing each other in a new light. You know these characters need to be together, but they each have "bears" they need to conquer before they can truly give themselves to their relationship.
A wonderful start to what I am sure is going to be an amazing series featuring strong women and the men who love them.

Caught in the Act (Independence Falls #2)
Sara Jane Stone

Falling for his rivals' little sister could cost him everything…

For Liam Trulane, failure is not an option. He is determined to win a place in Katie Summers' life before she leaves Independence Falls for good. But first, he needs to make amends for the last time they got down and dirty.

Only problem?

His professional success hinges on striking a deal to buy Katie's family business. And after Liam's relationship with their Katie went south years ago, the Summers brothers are more enemy than friend. If both parties agree to set the past aside, they can reach an understanding. But when Katie welcomes him back into her bed, Liam risks everything to make her his.

After Liam betrayed her trust, Katie Summers will do anything to keep him from walking away with the family business. She decides to seduce him, knowing that when her brothers find out, they will back off from the deal. And she'll finally have her revenge. But when her plan spirals out of control, Katie learns that payback may come at too high a price…
***

Meet Katie Summers. She has a long standing history with Liam Trulane. When he and Eric set their sights on buying her family's company - she is 100% against it. There wasn't much she and her brothers agreed on these days. But when it came to their long-standing grudge against Liam Trulane? She knew her brothers were on her side.
You met Liam Trulane in the last installment of Independence Falls. Liam has recently acquired more responsibility in the company he runs with his best friend, Eric. First on his list - buy Summers Trucking. One problem? The family hates him. His questionable past with Katie has him listed an enemy number 1 on their radar.
Too bad for them, Love is determined to win in this one. She paused, resting her forehead against the mare's smooth neck. "I have important life-changing decisions to make, choices that affect my family and future," she murmured. "And I'm thinking about dinner with a boy."
This installment stole my heart. Something about 2nd chance loves hits me hard. Maybe it has to do with the back and front my husband and I went through before he tied me down...maybe it is all the history that goes with the story. Maybe I am just a sucker for all kinds of love. Katie and Liam could have given up, it would have been easier. With the buy-out of the company, the accident that left her brother in a coma and the unpleasant past that they share - they could have left bygones be bygones. "I'm not giving up on us. Not this time."

Hero by Night (Independence Falls #3)
Sara Jane Stone

He was nobody's hero until he landed in the wrong bed…

Armed with a golden retriever and a concealed weapons permit, Lena Clark is fighting for normal. She served her country, but the experience left her emotionally numb and estranged from her career-military family. Staying in Independence Falls seems like the first step to reclaiming her life until the town playboy stumbles into her bed…

Chad Summers is living his dream—helicopter logging by day and slipping between the sheets with Mrs. Right Now by night. Until his wild nights threaten his day job, leaving Chad with a choice: prove he can settle down or kiss his dream goodbye. But when he ends up in the wrong bed, the one woman in Independence Falls he can't touch offers a tempting proposition. Chad is ready and willing to give in to the primal desire to make Lena his at night—on one condition. By day, they pretend their relationship is real.

But their connection extends beyond the bedroom, threatening to turn their sham into reality if Chad can prove he's the hero Lena needs night and day… forever.
***
Sara Jane Stone hit gold with Chad and Lena. Chad is the playboy of Independence Falls and it is affecting his place at Moore Timber. As a favor to his boss he agrees to lay low and possibly look at settling down. Chad knows this won't happen, so what better than a "fake girlfriend" to get some heat off his back.
Enter Lena Clark. Military brat and vet, she moved to Independence Falls to try to get back on her feet after her attempt at civilian life failed in her hometown of Portland. Lena and Georgia met in group therapy.  Two unlikely people partnering together to achieve two separate goals.
"I don't like crowds. Or people touching me.  Except you, I guess." She let out a mirthless laugh. "It must be your charm."
Neither are looking for anything more than getting in the air and getting back to normal. Enter the feels.
"I'd like to help you - "
"Why?" she demanded.
"Because you're pretty."
The look in her blue eyes called bullshit.
Sara takes such a unique twist on a friends to lovers story. Chad and Lena have this connection that is undeniable - but, will it ever progress pass a friendship with benefits? The intensity of their relationship kept me on pins and needles. Lena's struggles are sincere and the emotion behind her PTSD is so real. Chad's need to fulfill his father's dream and his struggles with his own reservations about happiness and his future. A reader can't help but feel at home in Independence Falls with friends like Katie, Georgia and Lena. The bond between the men is a great addition to the cast of strong women. With the previous two books in this series being strong FOUR's... Sara hit the FIVE mark with 'Hero by Night.' I cannot wait to read more of this series when it is released.

Let's show Sara Jane Stone some LOVE!

I've lied to the people I care about. I'll probably never want to sit around and talk about my feelings. I'm a slob. I like to fly by the seat of my pants. But I love you, Natalie Sweet. I love your button-up sweaters, the fact that you're always talking, and your damn clipboard. I love that you make a plan for everything and that your contingency plans have contingency plans. your ass in poker,” I giggled.
He smiled, triumphant. “If it means sixty or seventy

I raised one eyebrow, “You’re gonna regret that.”
“You wanna bet?”
I smiled with as much deviance as I could muster.”

At Wolf Ranch

Everything's bigger in Big Sky country, including the hearts of the Montana Men...

After years on the rodeo circuit, Gabe Bowden wants nothing more than land of his own and a woman who will claim his heart for more than one night. When he has the chance to buy the enormous Wolf Ranch spread, he snaps up the incredible deal. Everything is set, until Gabe rescues a woman on the deserted, snowy road leading to the property, and the half-frozen beauty changes everything.

Ella Wolf rushes to her family's abandoned Montana ranch after her twin sister is murdered. She knows she's next . . . unless she can uncover a secret hidden somewhere at Wolf Ranch. The last thing Ella expects is to be rescued by a rugged rancher with his own agenda. A man who almost makes her forget how dangerous love can be.

As an unlikely partnership sparks into something so much more, and a killer closes in, can Ella and Gabe learn to trust one another before it's too late?

***Expected Date of Publication: February 25th, 2015***
***I received a copy of this book for my honest review***

Jennifer Ryan knows how to capture a reader's attention. I first devoured her McBrides series, and I was eager to see that I received her upcoming book in my latest #AvonAddicts bundle. (If you missed my review for them McBrides, you can CLICK HERE to Meet the McBrides!) She takes it to an entirely new level with this one.
You meet Ella Wolf and her twin sister, Lela in the first chapter. You cannot possibly be ready for the heartache tossed your way in the first few pages. Luckily, Ella is one tough cookie and will not let her sister's death go without ensuring those responsible pay for what they took from her. I loved her attitude and determination from the beginning. Strong women in romances are always a PLUS for me. Heck, Jennifer had me so engulfed in trying to figure out all the details alongside Ella - I can't quite pinpoint when "WE" fell in love with Gabe.
Gabe. Things to know about our Gabe.
  • He used to run in the rodeo circuit.
  • His brothers: Caleb, Dane and Blake are bound to have some interesting stories too.
  • He attended Texas A&M University
  • His sense of humor is one of my favorite things about him (Next to his need to take care of the situation.
"How'd you meet her?" His mother tried to sound casual, but a hint of more than curiosity filled her voice.
"I found her on the side of the road and decided to keep her."
Blake had his beer bottle to his lips, taking a deep drink. He choked and coughed, but managed to swallow.
Ella laughed and shook her head at him again.
"It's a long story. You'll like her."
Gabe and Ella both have their own life altering issues at hand, but that doesn't stop them from being the kind-hearted individuals they are and trying to take care of each other while figuring out their own dilemmas. I held my breath almost the entire book. It was only when I giggled out loud that I was offered some emotional relief.
These two are so different, and yet so similar it is hard to understand how it is even possible - but love conquers all. This bull-riding cowboy from the wide open acres of Montana can't be away from his Manolo Blahnik wearing NYC city girl.
Ella never took her gaze from Gabe.
"This is Gabe Bowden. I brought him back with me from Montana."
Gabe smiled down at her. "Am I like a souvenir?"
I loved every page of this book from the heart-breaking story of the family she doesn't have to the love lost when what he had wasn't enough - to the blossoming relationship between two unlikely people in the ice cold conditions of a Montana winter. With this chilly tale of love and murder - I give Jennifer Ryan's 'At Wolf Ranch' a FIVE stars!
Now before we head off to give Jennifer the well deserved love and attention - let me share my favorite exchange of sweet nothings between these two!
"I will, because I have you."
"For as long as you want me."
"I might just keep you."

EXCERPT FROM COLLATERAL DAMAGE
“You’re up in six, Frankie.” Brock strolled back into the room with a sheet of paper in his hand. “I’ve

cleared the list of questions they’re going to ask you. Take a look for yourself though.”

I leaned forward and reached for the paper, giving it a quick once-over. Same shit, different day. That

was the thing about doing a press junket. You were asked the same questions a hundred different times but only

in ten different ways. By now I’d perfected all of my answers and could do these interviews as drunk and high as

Calder on a Saturday night.

I mentally scolded myself…that was mean. I didn’t know what it was, but something about Calder

brought out my bitchy side.

Handing the paper back to Brock, I said, “Got it,” and rose from the couch, smoothing my skirt over my

thighs when I was upright.

He led me down the hallway until we stood at the side of the stage to wait for my turn. We didn’t have

long to wait. Calder came sauntering off stage, appearing completely relaxed and not at all like he’d just been

forced to discuss what was supposedly one of the hardest times of his life.

His gaze inched slowly up the length of my body before he met my gaze, a small smirk forming on his

lips. My traitorous nipples pebbled underneath my silk shirt, and I was sure he could tell given the fact that I

wasn’t wearing a bra. Note to self—avoid backless shirts around attractive men. I pressed my teeth together,

more irritated than ever that I found him so physically appealing.

“Have we met?” Calder asked me with that stupid grin still on his face.

I’m sure I looked like I was trying to catch flies with my mouth. Was he shitting me? I schooled my

reaction as best I could and responded through clenched teeth. “Francesca Leon.”

“Oh, right. You’re that chick that does all the indie films.”

Seriously? He was going to act like we’d never met before—like we’d never worked together? Why did

that grate on me so much? It’s not like I should care one way or the other what he thought. I gave him a quick

nod, not saying anything.

He put his hands in his pockets and rocked back on his heels. “Well, good luck out there,” he said

before walking past me. His cologne wafted by as he passed, a mix of the outdoors and the ocean. I resisted the

urge to close my eyes and breathe in deeply. I would not let that idiot’s charm affect me like it did so many other

women. I was smarter than that.

A production assistant walked up, a frantic expression on his face. “You’re due on set.”

“Coming,” I said. I swept all thoughts of Calder from my mind, remembering why I was here. This was

the final push for my film that would be releasing next week, after which I’d be starting production on my first

mainstream, big-budget studio film. This was is it…the one I was determined would launch my career and make

Francesca Leon a household name.

Runaway Cowboy

"You had your chance, and you threw it away …"

Five years ago, Jen woke up with a ring on her finger and her fiancé nowhere to be found. She swore she'd gotten over the betrayal, but when Clay unexpectedly hires on with the rodeo for a week, she finds herself torn between passion and regret.

Clay left intending never to see Jen again. He's been running from his troubled past for far too long, and it's not a life he wants for her. But it's hard to run from the past when the past is your own family, and Clay finds himself thrown back into the chaos he thought he'd finally left behind.

Will the truth drive Jen away, or is there a second chance at happily-ever-after for this runaway cowboy?

***I received a copy of this book in an exchange for an honest review***

Jen and Clay are not new names to those who have read the other books in this amazing series by T.J. Kline. Jen is the no nonsense sister of Scott (from Rodeo Queen) and Derek (from The Cowboy and the Angel). Throughout these two books, and the other: Learning the Ropes; you get to see Jen and her amazing husband, Clay. Clay seems to be a part of the family - but HOW did they get there?

This prequel of sorts gives you an insight like you never imagined. A look at a younger Scott and Derek was a fun bonus in this novella. A look into the brother-like banter the three of them share, even when times are not all sunshine and rodeo buckles.
"Ten bucks says I can make her smile."
"Twenty bucks says you can't."
"Thirty bucks says she slaps you and walks away." Both men looked over to see Derek flop down into one of the folding chairs.
Jen and Clay may not have the perfect relationship, but it is one rooted in true love - and that truly conquers all. But, after 5 years and not so much as a word - does love stand a chance for this cowboy?
"Tell me, Clay, who had the bet that I'd dump potato salad on your head?"
"What?"
He barely opened his mouth before she upended the plastic bowl over him.
Usually I am not a fan of novella. It seems like diet food for me - and this gal loves her some steak and potatoes. The way Tina tied this novella up - it was more like dessert. Perfection. Just enough. Having had this couple for three prior books - I got my meat, potatoes and now dessert. I did steer clear of the potato salad though!

FIVE NOVELLA LOVING STARS!
