Someday Girl (Someday Series)

For Cat Nichols, someday was finally here. Going away to college meant a fresh and new start for the girl who lived locked away in a prison of insecurities. She was ready to experience new things and meet new people. But she wasn’t ready for him…

Jace Butler had experienced things that no person should have to. Trying to come to terms with his past and live in the present was a constant struggle for the man whose demons lie dormant beneath the skin of his rippling body and sexy smile. But when she walked into his life, the chance for a better life came with her…

After finding each other, Cat and Jace also find that both past and present issues are trying to ruin their chance for a better future. Issues that will have to be dealt with for once and for all…together or apart.

Some thoughts?
  • I usually have trouble when an author genre hops. This book seemed younger than Hope Falls series and Crossroads series - but have NO FEAR. The genre was rocked. The younger angle of the book didn't seem faked or awkward.
  • The main character really spoke to me. Why, you ask?
    • We are both named: Cat.
    • We both are list driven. "I was a list kind of girl."
    • Adorkable.
  • A freakin BAMBI reference in the book. Be still my Disney loving heart...
  • She writes Pi-Kus. We need to be friends, me and Cat. It would be like John Green's book, 'The Abundance of Katherines. "
And then there is Jace. "Finally, I lifted my gaze, and nothing - nothing- could have prepared me for what I saw or how it made me feel. Jace's striking blue eyes stared directly into mine, beneath his thick blanket of inky lashes, and held my gaze."

Cat is a shy person, but something about Jace makes her just blurt stuff out. I love it. The awkward interactions are how EVERY girl feels when that guy steals all her sanity with just a glance. And while we think we are bombing, the way he sees it is ADORABLE.
"I don't think you need to worry about that," he grinned. "I don't know you well enough - yet - to know if you're a dork or not. But I do know that you are adorable."
Someday Girl is a wonderfully penned story of a young girl trying to find herself after spending her entire life hiding behind her mother. A story of those one of  a kind friendships that you only dream of, and that first undeniable, uncontrollable first love.

Both Cat and Jace have personal battles that they need to overcome. While it is instinct to not lean on another person because you have never been able to, they find that will only hinder the relationship that is beautifully blooming between them. When will we ever learn? While we do not want to bring the person we love into a messy situation, hiding it (or sugar coating it) isn't the answer... but then what fun would a love story be if it was simple?

Eager to jump into the other books to see how their story plays out, but also for the fun cast of friends. Annabelle, Elijah's wife, is feisty. (To put it mildy.) "Oh yeah!" Annabelle raged. "You're used to being the craziest bitch in any room! Well, you've never seen my Stockton side. You're used to turning on that cray cray faucet and having people crumble and do whatever you want because they don't want to find out how far you'll take it. Well, honey, I invented the cray cray faucet, and I guaran-fucking-tee you that you aren't willing to take it as far as I am..." Yep. Annabelle is not the person you want on your bad side. Thank God she likes Cat! :)

Favorite Lines from the book???
"...oh-my-freaking-Honey-Nut-Cheerios-he-is-really-sitting-less-than-six-inches-from-me..."

The face that she displayed that reaction from seeing me was nothing short of fucking intoxicating.

Every day, I would wake up feeling like there was no way I could grow to love her more by the end of the day, and every night, I would go to sleep amazed at the fact that I had.

"Yeah, I guess it just goes to show that sometimes the guy picks Mary Ann instead of Ginger."

AS USUAL, let's take a minute to show these ladies some LOVE!

Mended (Lucian & Lia Series)

THE STUNNING CONCLUSION TO THE LUCIAN & LIA TRILOGY...

My name is Lucian Quinn and I own one of the most successful software companies in the world. I’m twenty-nine, rich and single. Impressive right? I’m also a favorite target for every hungry socialite looking to land the uncatchable catch. Maybe it sounds vain, but the fact that I’m a God between the sheets doesn’t hurt my stock any. What these women don’t know though is that I’m completely screwed up and damaged beyond repair by my past. The only part of me I’ll ever willingly give them is the hour it takes to make them scream…several times.

Then I saw her…

I’m Lia Adams and I’m in my last year at St. Claire’s University in North Carolina. I grew up with an abusive mother, and a twisted stepfather who was worse…so much worse. I’m so close to escaping from my past and making my dreams come true. I’ll do anything necessary to survive, even work as an escort to help pay for my college expenses. The men that I accompany to various events as an escort for Date Night are mostly harmless and just want an attractive woman on their arm for an evening. It has never gone further than that…until him…

Lucian finally shares his past heartache and guilt with Lia. Free of the shadows that have haunted them, they are ready to move forward together.
Until…the woman who destroyed Lucian’s life eight years ago is suddenly free. Lucian is in a frantic race against time to convince those around him that Cassie is the ultimate threat to all that he holds dear. He’ll stop at nothing to protect the woman he loves even if he has to wage a war against his best friend to do it. .

The time has finally arrived. The incredible Sydney Landon has finished Luc & Lia's story. And what a story it has been. If you did not catch my reviews for the first and second in this trilogy - have no fear, Cat is here! CLICK HERE for my review of PIERCED and CLICK HERE for my review of FRACTURED
Now for the conclusion in Mended. You are reunited with Lia and Lucian in their quest to find true love in a world that has been anything but kind to them. "Two damaged, broken people looking for the person who could make them whole again. I am his and his is mine. Of this, I am certain. " The thing about Sydney... she writes passion like nobody else. She pens these relationships where they... "...I can't fuc---breathe without her." And she does it with such ease and believability that you find yourself unable to breathe without these characters. You find yourself needing them to find their way or you don't know how you will ever be whole. Silly, right? Nope! That is damn good writing.  And this isn't your run of the mill, cookie cutter romance. "Not everyone has a shiny, perfect kind of love. Sometimes it's messy, complicated, and painful. It doesn't lessen the depth of the feelings involved though."

So many things about this book made me smile. While the world around them seems to be crumbling at every opportunity, and chaos continues to ensue - there is still humor between the two of them as they find the kind of relationship that works for them.
"Now, finish eating. I worked my ass off on that breakfast."
A giggle escapes as I look from him to the bag of bagels sitting beside the toaster oven. "You're my hero," I deadpan, trying to hold a straight face.
"Damn straight."

Put aside the EPIC romance that is Luc and Lia - you have this amazing cast of supporting characters, which I have said before and I am sure I will say again: "SYDNEY ROCKS AT HER SUPPORTING CAST!" I have never been quiet in my love for Rose & Max. And Rose goes a little crazy in her quest for the unobtainable. When their story comes to life, that is going to be one laugh out loud roller coaster of awkwardness. But, Aidan. Best friend of Lucian. Sweet to the core. BUT, Aidan and Lucian are boys. And boys will be boys. And these situations caused me to bust out into laughter while reading.
"...Sometimes you just want your dick sucked without having to work for it." The smirk on his faces says that he's joking ---at least partly. For his sake, I hope a lot.
"I have no idea why you're not married." I try to keep a straight face.
Aidan is one tortured soul. He came from a loving, two parent household in which his parents doted on their only son, but when his heart wants what it can't have - life can be hell.  If I could pick only one of Sydney's books to read in the future (which I hope is NEVER the situation) - it would be Aidan's. His story in this installment has me begging for more. Rose's book is next, but I wish I could just jump ahead to Aidan. I feel like he needs me. :)

Did I tell you anything? Nope. Can't. Won't. This conclusion to Luc and Lia's story is jam-packed with so much. You have fires, parents, new business opportunities, babies, shopping, LOTS of food, public displays of lust, graduations, proposals that you would not expect (and their fall on the floor reactions!) revealed pasts, jail-yard justice, bagels with blueberry cream cheese, an incredibly hilarious threesome offer with a ditsy bartender and her boyfriend and so much more. How could you NOT want to read this book?!? Unless you are roommates with Cassie! And even then, you will probably still read it whenever you were able to remove the straight jacket. Before I leave you to either ONE-CLICK Mended to read the conclusion, or ONE-CLICK Pierced to START the series, let me share with you my final two tidbits.
1) I adore Sydney. I cannot wait to finally meet this gem in person. Seeing my blog's name in her acknowledgements and MY  NAME there too has been such a friggin' moment for me - I want to frame it and cherish it forever. Probably will. *Insert Fangirl Squeal Here*
2) There was this one line of the book that made me smile. Probably because it is so beautiful, and is so fitting for our blog.
"If I live a thousand lives, it still won't be long enough to show you all of the love I feel when I see, feel, or think of you."

NOW! As always... let's give our girl, Sydney Landon some FIVE STAR love since she continues to give us FIVE STAR books!

About COLALTERAL DAMAGE

Now trending

Hollywood It Girl, Francesca Leon, has just landed the biggest role of her

career…one that could clinch an Oscar nomination and open doors. If she’s going to

move her career to the next level and work with top directors, she has to nail this

Team Calder

Bad boy Calder Fox is the son of Hollywood royalty and fresh out of rehab after his

fans still love him and the paparazzi stalk him, he’s never taken life, or anything

about his career, seriously. He may be charming and drop-dead gorgeous, but if he

doesn’t stay sober, he could ruin Frankie’s future and expose her long-hidden family

secret to the voracious media.

Behind the scenes

Things heat up during filming and have the potential to become hotter, deeper, and

much more real. But can Frankie trust Calder with her secret? Or is he doomed to

EXCERPT FROM COLLATERAL DAMAGE
“You’re up in six, Frankie.” Brock strolled back into the room with a sheet of paper in his hand. “I’ve

cleared the list of questions they’re going to ask you. Take a look for yourself though.”

I leaned forward and reached for the paper, giving it a quick once-over. Same shit, different day. That

was the thing about doing a press junket. You were asked the same questions a hundred different times but only

in ten different ways. By now I’d perfected all of my answers and could do these interviews as drunk and high as

Calder on a Saturday night.

I mentally scolded myself…that was mean. I didn’t know what it was, but something about Calder

brought out my bitchy side.

Handing the paper back to Brock, I said, “Got it,” and rose from the couch, smoothing my skirt over my

thighs when I was upright.

He led me down the hallway until we stood at the side of the stage to wait for my turn. We didn’t have

long to wait. Calder came sauntering off stage, appearing completely relaxed and not at all like he’d just been

forced to discuss what was supposedly one of the hardest times of his life.

His gaze inched slowly up the length of my body before he met my gaze, a small smirk forming on his

lips. My traitorous nipples pebbled underneath my silk shirt, and I was sure he could tell given the fact that I

wasn’t wearing a bra. Note to self—avoid backless shirts around attractive men. I pressed my teeth together,

more irritated than ever that I found him so physically appealing.

“Have we met?” Calder asked me with that stupid grin still on his face.

I’m sure I looked like I was trying to catch flies with my mouth. Was he shitting me? I schooled my

reaction as best I could and responded through clenched teeth. “Francesca Leon.”

“Oh, right. You’re that chick that does all the indie films.”

Seriously? He was going to act like we’d never met before—like we’d never worked together? Why did

that grate on me so much? It’s not like I should care one way or the other what he thought. I gave him a quick

nod, not saying anything.

He put his hands in his pockets and rocked back on his heels. “Well, good luck out there,” he said

before walking past me. His cologne wafted by as he passed, a mix of the outdoors and the ocean. I resisted the

urge to close my eyes and breathe in deeply. I would not let that idiot’s charm affect me like it did so many other

women. I was smarter than that.

A production assistant walked up, a frantic expression on his face. “You’re due on set.”

“Coming,” I said. I swept all thoughts of Calder from my mind, remembering why I was here. This was

the final push for my film that would be releasing next week, after which I’d be starting production on my first

mainstream, big-budget studio film. This was is it…the one I was determined would launch my career and make

Francesca Leon a household name.

***I received an advanced copy of Fractured in exchange for my honest review***
Before I dive into Fractured, if you missed my review of Pierced (The beginning of Luc and Lia's story) than please ----> CLICK HERE

Sydney Landon wows her fans again with this second installment of this amazing NA trilogy. This take on a love story is such a different approach than what is happening in the NA genre. Both Lucian and Lia have their own demons that they are fighting, but the depths it is taken, the topics covered and the raw emotion involved stands out in a genre that seems to be blossoming very quickly.

"You're in love with her, aren't you?"
"What are you talking about?"
"I have never seen you this way over a woman. To be honest, you're a complete wreck, which we both know isn't you."

In Fractured, you get to learn so much more about the supporting cast of characters. And supporting characters is something Sydney does well! (This is why I love her Danvers series so much! You fall for the background characters so hard - you are dying for them to find their own HEA in their own book!) Aidan makes me giggle with his abrasive tone he takes with Luc, which most don't dare.

"Damn man, when did you become such a drama queen? Yeah, I'll run your company, probably better than you, but when this is over, I better get fucking Employee of the Month or shit's going to hit the fan."

And then you gave Max. I love Max. Max is this cool as a cucumber lawyer, and he finds himself bewildered.

He drops down on the couch across from me, releasing a breath. "Yeah, holy Hell, she's something else. I didn't know whether to run for my life of propose."

Which brings me to Lia's BFF, Rose. She is epic and wild - full of spunk! "I'm still your Martha,
bitch, but I'm also your Dirty Harry. Thanks to Mama and Daddy demanding equal time, I can bake and shoot with the best of them." Rose has set her sights of Max after her ex betrayed her, and I feel this is going to be one fun development to watch. They are explosively hot, but we you toss in Max's even temper - I think it will be awkward and fun.

So much in this story is still left unspoken. So many parts of their pasts still not explained, and yet JUST enough to keep me going until the final installment. If Sydney wasn't already a New York Times Best Selling author, I'd tell her she was going to be one with this series here.

As always, we will end with SHOWING OUR LADY SOME LOVE!!!!

Indiscretion Boxed Set Release!

About INDISCRETION Vol 1-4
F*ck and chuck. Pump and dump. Hit it and quit it. One night stand. Didn’t matter how I branded it—that’s all she had wanted it to be. That much was clear when she left me with my pants down and my dick still out.
What she hadn’t counted on was fate intervening and our worlds colliding—again.
The day I showed back up in the life of Chloe Griffins, I knew I had to have her again. My body was hungry for another taste. Like an addict, I’d been craving another hit for months, and there she was—flesh and bone, tits and ass.
The fact that she worked for the competition should’ve been reason enough for me to leave her alone. I had a job to do that summer and f*cking Chloe wasn’t part of it. But I was like a man possessed.
I’d do whatever it took to have her again.

Beautiful Oblivion: Them Maddox Boys

Before I dive into Beautiful Oblivion, I am going to back up a little to where it all began. Beautiful Disaster is Jamie McGuire's first dive into the world of a Maddox. You meet Travis "Maddog" Maddox and watch his world do a complete 180 with the girl we have all grown to know and love as "Pidge." Disaster was through Abby's eyes, and when you open up Walking Disaster to find you get to live it through the eyes of Maddog himself - uh, SWOON! Tied up with wedding bells and an epilogue to tease even the best of us - she gives you Beautiful Wedding. Travis is one of those broken but beautiful guys that crept their way into your heart and is there to stay.

We weren't blogging yet, when I read these, but here are my Goodreads reviews:

We had the immense pleasure of meeting Jamie at RT and she was as sweet as you could ever imagine. Kris & I walked away with Property of Travis Maddox shirts, which I wear proudly and often. (Latest was while reading Beautiful Obilivion.

***
Taking place during the same timeline as Travis and Abby's story, Beautiful Oblivion is intense in its own right, and will (at times!) make you forget all about the brooding Travis Maddox when his big brother, Trenton takes a seat at Cami's table. The stigma attached to being one of those Maddox boys is funny.
Trenton picked up one of the shot glasses and touched it to his lips, tilting his head back. He slammed it on the table and winked. "Don't worry, babe. I'll take care of it." He stood up an walked away.
I didn't realize until my mouth was hanging open until my eyes met Raegan's and it snapped shut.
"Did he just drink your shot? Did that really just happen?"
"Who does that?" I said, turning to see where he went. He'd already disappeared into the crowd.
"A Maddox boy."
This initial encounter basically guaranteed a signed, sealed and delivered good time with this new pairing. Trent set his sights on Cami. Cami's heart belonged to T.J. Or did it? Trent doesn't take no for an answer, and he plays dirty when it comes to Cami. When he showed up at her door for dinner, after she said "No," with Olive - I literally laughed out loud. Who says "No" to an adorable FIFE year old who is dying to go to Chicken Joe's? Not Cami. And so an awkward, albeit comfortable friendship forms with snarky texts, unwelcome visits and some football talk.
"I was just thinking now was as good a time as any to acknowledge that you're perfect and it wouldn't suck if you fell madly in love with me anytime soon."
"I have a boyfriend," I reminded him.
He waved me away. "Speed bump."
***
My entire body tensed. "What the hell are you doing in here? This is the girls' bathroom, Stalker Texas Ranger."
"Did you just insinuate I'm comparable to Chuck Norris? Because I'll take it."
As Cami continues to attempt to make her long distance relationship with T.J. work, her friendship blossoms with Trent. Working together at Skin Deep, making friends with his friends, constant visits at the bar she works at - Cami finds herself"...in trouble. Big, disastrous, Maddox trouble."
When Travis comes to Cami all out of sorts, he reveals Abby. My heart went bananas. It was incredible to see tidbits of their story from an outsiders POV. Cami tells it to Travis straight like no one else will. In a drunken stupor, in between rants about Abby and plans to buy her a puppy - Travis mentions her friendship with Trent and how Trent may have mentioned her. "I've never tried with you, either. My brother has always been in love with you."
Trent, tired of waiting, kisses her. Boyfriend? Not a problem in his eyes.
"You messed everything up, Trent. It's ... it's too weird, now."
"That's stupid. Everything is the same," he said. "The only difference is that now you know I'm a damn good kissed."
I couldn't help but smile.
"I won't surprise attack your face. I just want to see you," he said.
A trip to California, a few fights with some creative wording and tactics, Trent and Cami are trying out this thing between them. While Cami ensures Trent he will walk away from her, the chemistry between them is dynamite. Cami is my favorite in this book. She has so much sass, and being the product of a house full of brothers, the mouth on her is epic. She reminds me of the fights I have when it comes to her reasoning and demands.
"And the first thing you say to me the day after being a royal shit bag will not be an invitation to dump you on your stupid, drunken ass." I yelled the last three words, enunciating every syllable. I threw the grapes, and he caught them against his stomach. "You will apologize, and then you will be super fucking nice to me for the rest of the day and buy me doughnuts!"

Trent and Cami's story was beautiful. Full of disaster, chaos, hidden stories, friendship, family and a whole lot of tattoos. Cami may never believe Travis or Trent when they tell stories of how he has always loved her, but he will have a lifetime to show her all the love he feels.
This is SOOO a Maddox boy!
"Because I've been in love with you since grade school, Chamomile. And everyone knew it. Everyone."
"I'm still not sure I believe that."
"You wore ponytails every day for years. They were perfect."

Now let's show Jamie McGuire some Maddox-worthy LOVE!

Ivy Chronicles: Wild

Sophie Jordan is an incredibly talented author who pens the Ivy Chronicles, among other titles. Wild is the final installment of her series, and let me tell you - she goes out with a bang!!!

***
Wild releases November 18th, 2014.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A good girl goes fabulously bad in the final book in New York Times bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s sexy New Adult romance series, in which three Ivy League suite-mates seek higher knowledge of just how far they can go.

Months after her boyfriend dumped her, Georgia can still hear the insults he hurled at her. Boring. Predictable. Tame. Tired of feeling bad, she’s ready to change her image, and go a little wild. What better way to prove her ex wrong than a hot night of sexual adventure at the secret campus kink club?

In the shadowy den of the kink club, she unexpectedly runs into Logan Mulvaney, her friend’s little brother. A player extraordinaire too hot for his own good, he may be younger, but the guy is light years ahead when it comes to sexual experience. Now he’s telling her to go home—“good girls” don’t belong here!

Georgia is tired of having others define her. She’s going to teach Logan a lesson he won’t forget—one white hot, mind-wrecking kiss . . . that leads to another . . . and another . . . and. . . . Realizing she’s way in over her head, Georgia runs.

Only Logan won’t let her go. Everywhere she goes he’s there, making her want every inch of him. Making her forget who she is. Who he is. And just how wrong they are for each other.

***
Oh Sophie! This book was AMAZING. I loved the first two books in this series, but this one... this one was perfection. I am so glad I didn't have to wait til November to read this, but I cannot wait for a print copy to sit on my shelf. It was that beautiful. I loved that Georgia was the final book. We learned to love Georgia in the last 2 books, but so much was revealed in this final installment. And when Logan sets his sights on Pearls (his nickname for Georgia) she is in for a WILD ride.

"I want to do things to you... things a clean, vanilla girl like you never dreamed of. Things that tool boyfriend of yours never came close to doing to you."

Logan is Reece's promiscuous little brother who has made his way through half the undergrad's at Dartford while working on his high school diploma. Yes! You read that right, this playboy is a Senior who pitches on his school's baseball team. Georgia would never see him as anything more than Reece's kid brother. (Manwhore was a nickname used often when referring to Logan) Logan on the other hand was intrigued by Georgia when he first met her.

"...'Character is what you do when no one's looking.' Well, I was looking, Georgia. And I've been looking ever since..."

Georgia is adjusting to life without her ex-boyfriend of 4+ years. This path takes her to the Kink club with Annie, and she finds herself incredibly turned on watching this guy who was kissing a girl with such passion she couldn't help but stare. The way he kissed - like his whole being was focused on it. The way the bottom of his spine dipped was sexy as hell. Mortified suddenly replaced her arousal when she realized the cause of these hot feelings was Logan Mulvaney.

"I'm a big girl, thank you very much. I don't need permission to be here."
He looked me up and down, his gaze lingering at my throat. "Sure you do, Pearls. You fit in here about as much as a bull in a china shop."

Georgia decides to forgo spending the summer in an internship in her home state of Alabama to spend the summer working for a professor. She gets to spend the summer in Reece's old apartment above Mulvaney's since she doesn't have the luxury of a dorm during summer break. Late nights spent with Logan, who is too tired to drive home and accustomed to crashing on his older brother's couch after closing shifts at the bar, Georgia and Logan's friendship blooms into something incredibly beautiful. Of course, Georgia isn't willing to see where this could go, so she continues to push Logan away. She even brings a date to Pepper's birthday know the odds that Logan will be in attendance. I cannot tell you what happens next, but staying in theme of this series I will Tease you with what happens with a few lines from (chapter 13) the party:
Oh. My. God.

I turned my head sideways and caught sight of us in the mirror.

My chest squeezed tight and I remembered his promise to say dirty things to me. He'd meant it.

The tension between them, and her need to get out on a Saturday night had her at Mulvaney's with Annie. Did she not learn? Annie was trouble. And Logan was a jealous man who knew what he wanted even if she couldn't admit to it.
"Why don't you head back to your little bar groupies?"
"Jealous?" His hand clamped on my arm, forcing me around.
"Ha. As if. I don't care who paws you, Logan. We're not even friends."
"No... we're more than friends. And you know it."

Previously I gave Foreplay and Tease a FIVE star rating, but now I am at a loss. I loved those two books, but if those were FIVE's on a FIVE star scale, Wild is easily a SEVEN. Logan & Georgia are my favorite NA couple to date, and this book is filled with everything you need, including but not limited to:
  • Another trip to the Kink Club
  • Handcuffs - with a police officer NOT with Kink like Rachael, Logan's BFF likes.
  • Overbearing Moms
  • Muskogee, Alabama
  • Another pair of handcuffs, Still NOT kinky
Logan and Georgia grew so much individually and together in this final installment that I seriously wanted to read it again RIGHT when I finished to see if I missed anything. I highlighted SOOO many parts of this book, the pages might as well have been yellow. Before I leave you begging me to tell you all the juicy details, I want to share a few more of my favorite lines from this book.

I wasn't delusional enough to think anyone was actually perfect. But he was my perfect. The thing I had been wanting...hoping that I might find someday...

"People wait their whole lives for this. Sometimes half their lives pass before they find it. Sometimes they never do. They settle for something else. Or nothing at all. But we found each other now, Georgia. Do you know how lucky that makes us?" (<---swoon-worthy i="" right="" speech="">

And before I leave you to show the AWESOMELY AWESOME Sophie Jordan some love, I want to share the Epigraph. (a short quotation or saying at the beginning of a book or chapter, intended to suggest its theme) I fell so much in love with it, I put it on my fridge and on my bathroom mirror.

If you are falling, dive...
-Joseph Campbell

The Ivy Chronicles: Foreplay & Tease

Sophie Jordan was a recommendation by a favorite author of mine, Codi Gary. When I received the upcoming 3rd (and final) in the series in my first Avon Addicts E-Book bundle, I knew it was time. I settled down with my Kindle and opened up the first book, Foreplay.

Pepper has been hopelessly in love with her best friend’s brother, Hunter, for like ever. He’s the key to everything she’s always craved: security, stability, family. But she needs Hunter to notice her as more than just a friend. Even though she’s kissed exactly one guy, she has just the plan to go from novice to rock star in the bedroom—take a few pointers from someone who knows what he’s doing.
Her college roommates have the perfect teacher in mind. But bartender Reece is nothing like the player Pepper expects. Yes, he’s beyond gorgeous, but he’s also dangerous, deep—with a troubled past. Soon what started as lessons in attraction are turning both their worlds around, and showing just what can happen when you go past foreplay and get to what’s real…

Foreplay welcomes you to the life of 20 year old friends: Emerson, Pepper and Georgia. Georgia is the friend who has been in a steady relationship with the same (BORING) guy since she was 16. Emerson is the wild and crazy friend, and Pepper has been in love with her friend's older brother for as long as she could remember. Hunter has always seen her as a little sister. Foreplay is Pepper's story to tell.

News breaks that Hunter is newly single, and Pepper decides she needs to gain some worldly experience in order to make Hunter look at her in a different light. Where better to find someone to teach her the ways then the bartender that everyone is talking about over at Mulvaney's? The girls head out and Pepper is open and willing to take all advice that Emerson can dish out, under one circumstance.
"I want the bartender."
Emerson smiled slowly, nodding in approval. "All right then. The bartender it is."
This story is full of amazingly strong friendships between these three women. I loved that the most. (Well, 2nd to Reece - the bartender!) It is reassuring to see positive female relationships I found myself wishing I could be the fourth in their group. Friendships like this aren't a dime a dozen.

Pepper and Reece's interactions are explosive. The physical attraction is clearly there from their first encounter before the bar. Something about Pepper causes Reece to crave her closeness every chance he can. Her friends see the relationship change from a means to an end (Her end being Hunter) to a real thing before she can see it, or admit it.
"But sometimes the thing you want isn't what you really need."
...
"Why does it have to be Hunter?"
Pepper cannot wrap her mind around her future NOT being Hunter. It has always been the goal. She has always wanted to be a part of that family. Hunter was safe. Reece was passion. Reece was risk. And that scared Pepper beyond belief. Scared her because of how Reece was becoming so important to her. Even sick, he was seducing me. He probably didn't realize it. It's just what he did. Who he was. How he affected me.

Hunter finally notices Pepper, and she couldn't be happier. Or could she? Why does Reece keep entering her mind? Doubt starts to fill her when it comes to her HEA with Hunter. Then tragedy hits and she lets the words that have filled her heart leave her lips when Reece comes to her rescue. "Love. You."

I am a grand gesture kind of girl, and Reece pulls out all the stops. He is so forward with his feelings for her, how could you not swoon? I did. Often. And then, Disney World? That was just so incredibly sweet. A wonderful, well-rounded, super hot NA book.

What happens when a girl who always calls the shots meets a guy who's too wild for even her?

A born flirt and good-time party girl, Emerson has never had a problem finding a willing guy. She's always chosen her hookups carefully, and she's never broken her three cardinal rules:

Never let them see the real you.
Never fall in love.
Always leave them begging for more.

***

Emerson knows the deal. Guys are fun to have around, but you don't fall in love.
Love was losing control. And I never lost control. I just made it look like I did - hooking up with different guys every week - but I was always fully cognizant of my actions. In charge every moment along the way.

Emerson finds herself hanging out with Annie since both of her best friends were preoccupied with their boyfriends. Annie While hanging with her single friend seemed like a good idea at the time, when they showed up to a biker bar and said friend left her stranded after she had drank a few too many drinks, she finds herself relying on the kind offer of a hotter than sin biker she meets in the bar. Shaw, while taking a verbal lashing from Emerson takes care of her and gets her home safely, but not before she wakes up partially naked in his bed. (Not telling you any more about HOW she got there!)

Content to never see this man again, she joins her friends for a party. While chatting with Pepper and Logan (Reece's hottie of a younger brother) she spots him. Such a small world this is. It turns out Shaw a cousin of Beth, whose party they are at. Shaw, a former Marine, is loyal to the core. He rescues Emerson, even when she doesn't think she needs it. Emerson isn't in the game for a fairy tale ending, she doesn't think she needs or deserves it. Shaw, on the other hand, knows that is what she deserves which is why he is in constant need to rescuing her.

Emerson may not want the same things that Shaw wants, but he makes it happen. She thinks she succeeded in paying her way at dinner, only to find that he slipped the money back into her pocket without her noticing.

The artist with Emerson couldn't hide the feelings she developed for Shaw. It showed in her painting. She didn't need anyone to see this piece, and yet her teacher insisted on it - and her grade depended on it. When she spotted him across the room seeing her picture, she knew she was gone. When her secret was revealed, he couldn't understand WHY she allowed people to think what they thought of her. My heart melted when she finally let him in.
"Don't leave me."
"Oh, Emerson, I couldn't if I wanted to."
Intense Shaw was laying out his feelings for Emerson to see, and she just couldn't. With never feeling loved or accepted, she just couldn't give herself to Shaw. It broke all her rules. After a Teen Wolf marathon with a newly single Georgia and Pepper - she texts Shaw with what is my favorite line in the entire book. (And there are some great ones - I tell you the banter between these two is epic!)
You don't have to chase me anymore.
Emerson and Shaw's story had more pain in the back story. I felt for both of them, and I melted when they protected each other. I loved that he didn't give up, even when he tried to give up. His heart was in it 110%.
Loving someone is scary. That was part of it. Always. Knowing, that at any moment for any reason it could be lost. But I wanted that. I wanted love. Even if I couldn't control it. I wanted it. I wanted him.

Overall, I must say that the first two books in the Ivy Chronicles were amazing. Sophie creates a world filled with strong emotions and relationships. Personally, I think it is very hit or miss within the New Adult genre. In my experience NA tends to lean more towards YA or Adult. Not this series. Sophie perfectly crafts what I believe this genre is trying to achieve. Her ability to maintain strong friendships throughout the books while romance blossoms is very important to me. A strong FIVE 'New Adult' Stars for the first two books in this series!
Now let's show Sophie Jordan some LOVE!
