Bachelors of San Gabriel (2, 3, 4, 4.5 and 5)

With just 11 days to spare until her newest release, I finished all the books in Jennifer Bernard's Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel series. Before I dive into the 5 stories I gorged myself in, let me just say that Jennifer is an incredibly talented author. With each brave fire fighter, I fell more in love. The dedication they each had to their jobs, the journey to their HEA and the background stories were unique and intriguing. As a whole, this series is a strong 4.5 - and I cannot wait for #6.

Hot For Fireman (#2)
Add to your TBR shelf on Goodreads

Ryan Blake got suspended from the San Gabriel firefighters a year and a half ago for a daredevil act that nearly killed someone. Now he’s back in San Gabriel, fighting to return to the force. He takes a job at a local dive, the Hair of the Dog, while he studies for the test that will get him his job back.

But the real test comes in the form of Katie Dane, bar manager. Katie got stuck running the family bar when her father had a heart attack. The place is losing money like crazy and the insurance is about to lapse. Her desperate solution? Burn the place down, collect a million dollars. The only problem--little does she know, her new bartender is actually a firefighter.

Can a professional fireman and a wannabe firebug ever manage to get along? More importantly, can they stay away from each other and/or keep from ruining each other’s careers? Not likely. This is San Gabriel, after all.

With the previous reads, I could not wait for the firehouse playboy, Ryan Blake to meet his match. This man was so far out of her league, they didn't even play the same sport. Get a grip. I instantly loved Katie. She is full of spunk and met Ryan quip for quip.
He opened his mouth but nothing came out.
"If you laugh at me, I'll knock your teeth out with my bat, " Katie said.
The spell broke.
Ryan met his match indeed with Katie. And his GRAND GESTURE of the Firemen Bar Scene was perfection. I think I have decided what my favorite thing is about this series - the insight you get with each member of Station 1. She leaves you eager to meet these men more intimately. Leaving this story behind, one of my favorite men was Vader. First, he shows his nerd with his name, and second for the silliness that is scenes like this one:
"I'll have a G-Spot, straight up," a redhead in a tube top asked Vader. "Do you know what that is?"
"Honey, I invented the G-Spot." Vader leered.
"Seriously? The drink or the, you know...?"
"Both. At the same time. With one hand tied to a bedpost."
The internal battles Katie and Ryan had in admitting their feelings was hilarious to say the least. I love scenarios where everyone tells them, and they still don't get it.
"Did you just admit you like me half the time?" Ryan gave her a half smile, which she supposed was all she deserved.
"At least half. Maybe more."
"More than half? You're scaring me now. Let me know when I'm up to sixty-one percent and I'll tone it down."
Another bachelor is off the market! Katie is one lucky lady.

Sex and the Single Fireman (#3)

The toughest captain on the East Coast, single father Rick Roman has come thousands of miles to San Gabriel to put an end to the "Bachelor Firemen" media hype. But when a stunning woman he nearly hooked up with in Reno turns out to be a firefighter from his new station, Roman realizes it's going to be tough keeping the tabloids at bay.

But there's even more Sabina isn't telling him. Before dedicating her life to battling blazes, Sabina led a very different life, one that made her famous. The last thing she wants is to have her secret exposed. The papers, bloggers, and TV gossips will have a field day with that—especially when they sense the obvious sexual heat between Sabina and Chief Roman, who's torn between firing her...and falling in love with her!

You meet two feisty people in Reno who are up for some no-strings attached fun while celebrating Thanksgiving after having each receiving tickets from Reno PD.
"Hey, I don't even know your name," she said suddenly surprised. Somehow it felt as if they'd traveled way past introductions.
"Ha. I don't know your either." He lifted his glass. They clinked again,
Sabina sipped her pink gin."Of course, they're on file with Reno PD."
In this installment, you get into the head of one of Station 1's female firefighters, "Two." (Otherwise know as Sabina or "Jones" to her brothers in the house) Enter Station 1's newest addition, "...Battalion Chief Rick Roman, the section commander in charge of the Training Section, specializing as the department's safety and hazmat specialist." (Who also happens to be a nameless figure from Two's NOT SO DISTANT past in Reno)
There was a different feel to this installment. Roman and Sabina's story was intensely deep and complex. It didn't have the lightness of the previously novels, but it was wonderful just the same. Roman's past made him the overprotective father he is today, and you see it in the intensity that he loves. Sabina is hiding from her past as if she was a convicted felon, and not a well loved child star. While Roman is expected to keep this media-magnet of a station, he is finding hurdle after hurdle - the largest? Falling head over heels in love with the one woman he can't.
The depth didn't stop with these two. Perhaps, it is because I am a mother first, but add kids into the mix, and I am a goner. Luke, Roman's son, is a constant reminder of all that he lost while Carly, Jone's "sister" from the Big Sister program is a representation of a normalcy that she craved as a child.
And finally, this HEA was drastic with a wonderfulness all wrapped up neatly with a bow. And Roman summed it up so well when he told her:
"...when I say 'I love you,' it doesn't change overnight. Or in two weeks."

How to Tame a Wild Fireman (#4)
Firefighter Patrick "Psycho" Callahan earns his nickname every day. Fast, fit, and a furious worker, he thrives on the danger which helps him forget a near-tragedy that changed his life forever. But when his off-duty carousing gets out of hand, Patrick is sent back to Loveless, Nevada, where the wildfire threatening his hometown has nothing on sizzling Dr. Lara Nelson.

Lara would rather be thought of as the physician who returned to Loveless than as the misfit brought up at a hippie New Age commune. But right now she's focused on her job at hand, patching up injured firemen...until the past hits her in the hard-muscled, blue-eyed form of Patrick Callahan. Now, the embers of their decade-old attraction have ignited into a full-on inferno, as the bad-boy firefighter and the good doctor take a walk on the wild side they'll never forget.

Psycho's story is easily my favorite from the series to date. Patrick is from a small town in Nevada called, Loveless. After a tragic accident he never returns to that town and his past. That is until his Captain offers his an opportunity to go help with the wildfires that are endangering his hometown. Patrick hasn't seen his family or Lara in what seems like an eternity. Both left Loveless to never turn back. Love him or hate him, Patrick wasn't the kind of guy you ever forgot.
The old friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes. Patrick is cocky and forward and obviously very interested in his old friend, Lara. Lara? Not so much.
"I don't think we should be involved anymore. We'll still be friends, of course. I'm glad we got to know each other again. And I really appreciated the... well, having sex with you."
I have to say, I almost died with how hard I laughed at her saying this. Can we say awkward?

Of the 8 in this series that I have read so far, there isn't a point that sticks with me more than when Patrick is trying to prove to her how he feels.
"But it comes down to this. I love you. I want you. I trust you more than anyone I know. I admire you. I respect you. And I can't keep my hands off you. To me, that adds up to spending my life with you. But, if you aren't there yet, I'll wait. Not patiently, though. I'll be the kid in the backseat going, 'Are we there yet, are we there yet?' "

Desperately Seeking Fireman (#4.5)
Fire Captain Jeb Stone and incredibly successful press secretary Nita Moreno have both been burned by love before. That's why neither of them is looking for more than a few steamy nights of passion.

When circumstances find them stranded on an island together, babysitting a cross-dressing senator and the very pregnant wife of San Gabriel's most famous captain, they allow the sparks they feel to take center stage. But as their feelings grow, can they each allow the other past the barriers both have built to protect their hearts?

Captain Jeb Stone and Nita had a brief encounter several years ago at the wedding of Brody and Melissa. Unfortunately, Jeb was married and Nita was working on it.  This novella is 3 years later when the two are called together for the greater good of hard-hitting news and a VERY pregnant reporter, Melissa. Circumstances are incredibly different when they meet up the second time. Up front Jeb lets Nita know his intentions to spend the few days on St. Lucia on a "date" with her. "The kind where I want to find out what your favorite flavor of ice cream is, and whether you like Shane Black movies and who your first crush was and why you looked sad when you asked me about Melissa and the bathroom."
I can't say much about this novella other than it is a beautiful story of friendship, second chances, forgiveness and loving yourself just as you are. Wounds and flaws didn't make her less perfect. They made he more perfectly human.

Four Weddings and a Fireman (#5)
Firefighter Derek "Vader" Brown is one of a kind—six feet of solid muscle with the heart of a born hero. It's that protective streak that has him pursuing a promotion to Captain to pay for his mother's home care. And it's why he intends to figure out why his sometime girlfriend Cherie Harper runs hot as hellfire one minute and pushes him away the next.

Cherie's got it bad. Vader sweeps her off her feet—literally—and their chemistry is combustible. There's just the little problem of a nightmare from her past she was desperate to escape. And then her sister Trixie arrives, causing havoc for Cherie and the male population of San Gabriel. Cherie doesn't want her past to complicate Vader's life or his career. But there's nothing like a firefighter to break through all your defenses, one smoldering kiss at a time

Vader is awesome! Vader is your goofy party guy always armed with the video camera. The side you don't see if the son who has been taking care of his Mom since he was 14, and she loves those videos - and he continues to make them for her.
As for Vader and Cherie - we have know about these two for quite some time. Vader went to Sabina a few books ago for advice on helping him with Vader. Your heart can't help but melt when you see a manly man as he is so head over heels in love with 'his girl.' He isn't sure why she is fighting it when he knows she loves him too, but he isn't giving up.  Even after she has turned down his marriage proposal TWICE!

His brothers may give him a hard time of how such a muscle head tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, but he doesn't care. "I'm proud of my sensitive nature. Helps me appreciate fluffy kittens and walks in the rain. Chicks are all over that shit." This story had the most layers to peel back with Vader hiding aspects of his past, and Cherie hiding everything down to her name. What will you find in this installment?
  1. Crazy family histories
  2. A pole riding (And shirtless firefighter) - Check out the Youtube video
  3. Unrelenting love and dedication.
  4. Love - in all styles
  5. Family
After all that and two failed proposals from Vader, it ends with "Save the planet, Vader. Will you marry me?" I laughed so hard with all of Cherie and Vader's antics and how they deal with all that peeling back every layer reveals.  When these two got their HEA, I was so pleased and relieved. The segued into the upcoming book was just a tease.
Vader clapped a hand on his back. "Freddie, I'm going to get mushy right now, because it's my wedding day and I want everyone to be happy. You ready?"
Fred, looking a little alarmed, nodded.
"If the girls knew what a hero, you are in here" - he thumped Fred's chest - "You wouldn't be able to take a step without some chick falling for you. So be careful what you wish for."

Now, I must wait ELEVEN days for some more Fireman love. Tell me in the comments, who is your favorite type of hero? Military, Firemen, Billionaires, Bikers? While you ponder that one, let's give the wonderful Jennifer Bernard some LOVE!

Matched Ally Condie

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

I'm not sure what I have against firsts in a series but I haven't been impressed here lately. Not saying that this was a bad book because it wasn't. Not by a long shot. I feel like if I would have read this book back when dystopians was a new thing, I would have been greatly into it. But it just seemed very familiar. Already done, society has taken over, nobody wants to fight, Cassia thought everything was perfect until she met a boy. Very familiar. except when it wasn't. The characters were different. I kept comparing Cassia to Katniss or Tris but Cassia isn't in the hunger Games or in Dauntless. I honestly don't think Cassia would have made it five minutes in the Hunger Games or even jumping on that first train after joining Dauntless, if that's what faction she would have chosen. Cassia is normal. She is not overly brave and she doesn't really fight society all that much. She does wonder though, and in this book, wondering is dangerous. She falls in love with someone who is not her Match. She does very small, little things to show her defiance to society. She wonders, she learns and she creates. Cassia grows strong and she starts to see that everything in Society is not as perfect as she thought and when things start to get a little crazy she wishes that everyone had the right to choose. She wants to choose the food she eats, the clothes she wears, the things he can read, and even who she is matched to.

Xander and Ky, the two guys in this story. One is her Match and her best friend since childhood, and the other a mistaken face that pops on her screen. One she loves, and one she loves a totally different way. I love them both for so many different reasons.

My Favorite Quotes:

"For a moment, he leans over the platform and I see what I need to see. I see his eyes, bright with life and fire, and I know he won't stop fighting. Even if it's the kind of quiet fight on the inside that you can't always see. And I won't stop fighting either."

"Every minute you spend with someone gives them a part of your life and takes a part of theirs."

"Only when I hold onto nothing can I be the best, only then can I be what they expect me to be."

"Growing apart doesn't change the fact that for a long time we grew side by side; our roots will always be tangled."

"...they are giving us pieces of a real life instead of the whole thing. And I'll tell her that I don't want my life to be samples and scraps. A taste of everything but a meal of nothing."

I am already into the second one and it is so much better than this one.  I am loving these books and I keep waiting for things to happen that seem to be just out of arms reach.

Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel Series (0.5, 1 and 1.5)

One Fine Fireman (The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel 0.5)

Kirk, aka Thor, one of San Gabriel’s infamous Bachelor Firemen, certainly lives up to his nickname. He’s tall, handsome, and has a chiseled body worthy of any Viking god. But he’d give it all up for one glance from her.

Sweet, shy Maribel has no idea he’s been pining for her. There’s nothing he’d like better than to sweep her off her feet and show her just how exquisite their love could be. But Kirk has a secret and he won’t let anyone get close, least of all the sexiest woman he’s ever met.

Can a feisty little dog and an even feistier little boy help these star-crossed lovers to find the true love they both so richly deserve?

***
I purchased these Jennifer Bernard books on a whim and during an Amazon Daily Deals. I have yet to met (read) an Avon author I haven't loved. Add sexy firefighters and the cute dog on the cover, how could one go wrong? I was right! Devoured the first 3 before I realized I hadn't written a review. In this first installment, you meet all the men from San Gabriel's famous Station 1. Ms, Bernard has this incredible way of making you care for every character from the loud Norwegian owner of the diner, Ms. Gund,  that Maribel works at to the lost dog (Z, Buddy, Stan, Hagrid) that brings everyone together.

Maribel, a content fiance of a New York photographer (Duncan) living in San Gabriel raising her son while they wait to set a date for the wedding works at this quaint diner, Lazy Daisy grill, that is frequented by the infamous Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel.
My goodness, they were like hand grenades of testosterone rolling in the door, sucking all the air out of the room.
Maribel knew all the guys from Ryan to Vadar to... Kirk was back. The quiet Kirk walked into the grill that morning with the rest of the guys. Kirk had been gone for months now, and suddenly he was back and the effect he had on her was back also.
"Eight words. Anyone have eight?"
"He said eight words. I had five. Anyone get closer than five?"
The brotherhood that is shown so quickly in this book is what pulled me in as a reader. Even though the guys were giving Kirk (Thor) a hard time with his shyness around Maribel, they were encouraging and supportive. While joking with each other, you learn so much about each one. By the end of this book, I was cheering for the HEA you get with the main characters and daydreaming about what Jennifer will do with the rest of the bachelors.
When he manages to put more than five words together around her, they are some good ones. Strong words filled with all the emotion you would desire from your true love.
"You're so beautiful," he said in a whisper.
Oddly, that statement seemed to confuse her. "You think I'm beautiful?"
"Why do you think I can never put two words together when I'm around you?"
The struggle Maribel feels between her heart and what she thinks is best for her and her Harry Potter loving son, Pete is intense. As a mother, I understand her desire for the stability Duncan represents, but as a lover of burning (PUN intended) love - I see the attraction that doesn't disappear with Kirk.
The journey to Maribel, Kirk and Pete's HEA was beautiful and full of trouble, bumps, unwanted people, some ditching school, a fire (of course) and Alaska. If you haven't given Ms. Bernard a chance yet, I suggest you pick up this quick (208 page) read and fall in love with the Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel. I know I did!

The Fireman Who Loved Me  (The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel #1)

Fearless, smoking hot, and single: meet the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel. These firemen might be heroes, but it's their bad luck in love that makes them legendary.

News producer Melissa McGuire and Fire Captain Harry Brody couldn't be more different, though they do have one thing in common: they're both convinced they're perfectly wrong for each other. But when Melissa's matchmaking grandmother wins her a date with Brody at a Bachelor auction . . .

Sparks fly. Passion flares. Heat rises. (You get the picture.)

Add a curse, a conniving nightly news anchor, a stunningly handsome daredevil fireman, a brave little boy, a couple of exes, and one giant fire to the mix, and Melissa and Brody's love may not be the only thing that burns

***
Jennifer takes you back to San Gabriel, and introduces you to the feisty grandmother, Nelly McGuire. The day is Nelly's birthday, and invitation told her granddaughter, Melissa to show up at the Hilton at 5 P.M. The San Gabriel County Firefighter and Law Enforcement Officers Fourth Annual Bachelor Auction. Nelly was going to marry off her daughter before it was her time to join her deceased husband, Leon - and this is where she was going to do it.
Nelly purchases a date with the firehouse's main LOOKER, Ryan. When both Nelly & Ryan find themselves "indisposed" for the said date - Captain Brody finds himself picking up Melissa McGuire for a date planned for a grandmother.
When the date goes well enough, the Captain walks Melissa to the door, and things get a little hot. Not before Nelly, who appears to be feeling better, opens it up to interrupt something neither party can explain.
"I saw his hands around your neck! He's no fire captain, he's an axe murderer!"
"Grans, he doesn't have an axe."
"I'm not a murderer of any kind." Brody felt compelled to clarify.
Melissa seemed to have forgot about the second part of the "date" her grandmother bought her, and that was the meal the firehouse agreed to cook for her. Ryan invited both Melissa and Nelly. Melissa took is upon herself to invite Channel Six's very own, Ella Joy. (Whom the firefighters adored!) Melissa had no intention of allowing the Captain to get to her like he had before, but when those two get around a door - there is no telling.
"Again?" hissed Nelly. "Just like the front door the other night."
Melissa knew after that dinner she was going to...Yep, better avoid the firehouse like a... well, a house on fire. Thanks to Ella Joy's wonderful idea to do a story on the infamous firehouse, Melissa finds herself as the firehouse so much, the guys give her a nickname. Hollywood.
Both Melissa and Brody (Henry) have pasts that come back to haunt them in their attempt at finding happiness. Stubborn might be the only thing these two have in common because when the situation gets tough, outsiders have to take drastic (and HOT) measures to get them to see how the other cares for them.
"That's so annoying," she said. "Just when I'm about to get mad at you, you do that."
"What?" he said, glancing up absently.
"Look so goddamn gorgeous."
"I'll try not to," he said dryly. It shouldn't be too hard. Hoagie's the heartbreaker."
This story had so many elements to it, but was in no way overwhelming. All the contributing factors to the difficulty of the HEA were addressed with such ease and the story maintained an amazing flow. Nelly might have been my favorite character because of her undying love of her husband, smart mouth and the ability to see the good and evil in people. She speaks so honestly about her late husband. He was perfect, by any means - and she didn't paint him that way.
"Oh, he would have give you an argument about that one. According to him, I was the biggest trial any man ever saddled himself with. Stubborn as rash, he used to say. Never did as I was told. I ran him a pretty dance. But then he'd turn around and tell me his life wouldn't be worth a gob of spit without me, and i thought what was a very pretty thing to say, for a rough man like him."
I fell in love all over again with the Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel all over again in this installment.
Double D told the story of the time they managed to save the local church, with a congregation trapped inside. "I figure we got an automatic pass to heaven after that one," he joked.
You can't help but love Hoagie (Ryan) and all his affirmations and the overwhelming feeling of family in the group of men (and the two female firefighters) at Station 1. The grand gesture in this one was wonderful. Both were in their comfort zones and it was sweet.
"You're in your turnout gear," she said blankly.
"You wore your glasses," he answered nonsensically.
"They help me think straight."
"Likewise."
Before I let y'all go to pick up EVERY book the talented storyteller, Jennifer Bernard had written - I want to leave you with the last line of the book which summed up my thoughts perfectly:
"Any bets on which fireman is next?"

There was NO cover for this short,
but I think this will do. :)
Falling for the Fireman (free short story) (The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel #1.5)
A taste of Bachelor Firemen fun, with a sexy hero, a brave heroine, some sizzle, and another visit with the crew of Station 1.

This is a sweet and short story about a reunion between two flirtatious souls who met during a rescue mission. Matt McBride is a firefighter for Station 1. His brothers call him "Nessie" for two reasons. One, he was born in Scotland, and two, he'd once pretended for a solid month that he'd been raised by the Loch Ness monster.
The firefighters are called to a structure fire at the local hotel where some models were staying during their shoot with the infamous San Gabriel Bachelors.

Nessie is sent up on the ladder and finds a woman trapped underneath debris. A beautiful model who is full of humor and jokes during this ordeal.
"You could be my friend. You're saving my life, after all. Trying to anyway. If it works, I think we should be friends."
"Already in the friend zone, is it? Story of my life."

"Is that an invitation for sex? Because your timing is a little off.:
He burst out laughing. She was gusty, he had to hand it to her. Spoiled, pill-guzzling model or not, he liked her spirit. "How about a rain-check then?..."

A terrible fall causes them to never see each other again. Doesn't mean the two don't think of each other often. Three years later. A photo shoot reunites the two again. She hides behind the camera while he jokes in his endearing accent. Hoping she can get through the shoot without him recognizing her. "Stud" (Fred) bursts in to thank Lisa "Bianca" for the autograph he left for his sister all those years ago, and a light bulb turns on in Nessie's head. He knows this woman. There playful banter is still present all these years later, and lucky for Matt - "I'm sure glad that sex rain check never expired."
No complaints from me about the short glimpse into yet another Bachelor Fireman of San Gabriel. Matt & Lisa's story could have been turned into a full-length novel, but it didn't lack being a short story. I think, all characters that Jennifer pens have the potential to fill an entire novel.

Overall, I adore Jennifer Bernard's style of writing. She doesn't leave me needing more, no questions left unanswered, except - Who is next? The supporting cast of characters are so lovable, you hope everyone gets their own story in time. I give this series (SO FAR) a 5 overall. Strong story lines mixed with burning romance.

Before I leave you to pick up the heartbreaker, Ryan's ("Hoagie") story - let's give the author some LOVE!

Indiscretion: The Final Volume

The image was seared into my mind. Imprinted. Emblazoned. Etched.

Did I blame him for what I saw? Or myself, for allowing him the ability to cause the pain coursing through me?

Betrayal was a weapon that cut to the core—the ‘what ifs’ the infection that festered in the wound.

I’d thought we’d had roadblocks thrown in front of us before. Damn. Those would have seemed like mere speed bumps if I’d seen what was coming…

Little did I know that what was headed our way would prove to be the biggest test of all—putting impossible choices in front of us. None of which seemed to lead to a happy ending in which the two of us were together.

***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

We've reached the conclusion of Chloe & Max's bumpy story. As eager as I was to get my hands on this hot piece of writing, I was equally sad to see the journey ending. With that being said, it did not stop me from devouring the entire final volume with my morning coffee this morning.

Metanoia (Engligh): (n.) the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life
(sidenote: there was only ONE word for me to learn in this final installment, I think Elisabeth should have started each chapter with one, or finished the book off with one. I know... I am needy, but the WORD NERD in me loved these little tidbits!)
During the previous three installments, you see both Chloe and Max grow with each other and individually. This final volume is no different in that area. I was shocked by the emotion that ran through each line of this book. Emotion flowed with Max's actions, Chloe's words and in the risks others in their lives took. This hidden relationship was hard to hide with all the emotion radiating from each of them.
Jackie's husband, Jamie has some words of advice for Max that made me chuckle.
He chuckled and patted me on the shoulder. "Good luck with that. In my experience the only way misunderstandings get straightened out with women is if you admit defeat and beg for forgiveness." He gave me a look of pity.
I kicked at the ground, pursing my lips. "Yeah, well... I'm not above grovelling if that's what it takes."
Opening up to each other about their pasts and leaning on one another in tough times leads them beyond the limits of their initial agreement. An accident that proved to be a blessing in disguise unveils more then either Max or Chloe could have imagined. Max, the protector, decides for Chloe that she doesn't need this, and does what he does best. Leave.
"I've got to be the world's biggest douche magnet."
The love between the two never faded, even with the distance and time he choose to put between them. Max's friend, Paul, couldn't stand by and let Chloe think the way she thought about his longtime friend. Paul urged her to take a moment and go see the Max she thought about daily.
I loved her. I loved every little thing about her, which is why I had to end it. I'd have to push her away and break her heart now because I didn't even know if I'd be around to receive her love in the future.
Max was in the business of protecting Chloe, and even if she didn't agree or desire his protection - she respected his reasoning. Even if  on most days Chloe couldn't even understand his reasoning. SO MUCH EMOTION in this book!
Elisabeth tied the series up so beautifully that I couldn't help but shed a tear or two saying goodbye to all the characters I have grown to love in this short amount of time. If I had to describe this final book in FIVE words: Devotion, Understanding, Strength, Forgiveness and Love. This series wasn't a simple one. There was so much to each character, so much meat to each story, and yet it all flowed together perfectly. There are only two things I am waiting for now:
1) The book to release, so I can discuss with people: Gabe, Kurt, Maximus, Paul and all the juicy details that I cannot put into a SPOILER-FREE review!
2) The paperback to release so I can get an autographed copy from this incredibly talented woman!

Before I leave you to either read 1-3 before the release of 4 or leave you to wonder what could be going on in the world of Max & Chloe when my review gave you little to speculate on, I want to share the one line in this book that stuck out to me the most:
Gratitude makes what you have enough. And I couldn't have been more grateful. I had everything I needed.

Here are my reviews for the first 3 Volumes!!!

He never expected a science project to affect him the way she does. As he tries to help her rediscover her past, he finds himself falling for the brave girl struggling to find her place and acceptance between the human and computer worlds.

I couldn't put this book down. It was a very fast read. I think it took me maybe three hours to read it but I was hooked. I was seriously invested with knowing what was going to happen to Kaitlyn. Freak of Nature reminded me of a prequel. So many bad ass female character books start out where the heroine is already a bad ass. You get glimpses of how they came to be that way or later you make get a novella that goes back and explains. This series starts off telling us how Kaitlyn became how she is. She wakes up not knowing anything about her past. She just knows that she was killed and saved by brilliant scientists and made into an android. She has a computer brain that can analyze and assess any situation but can't understand simple slang terms.

In the beginning she has only one friend, Quess. Quess is also the only one who knows that she actually has her own thoughts and feelings. Quess is such an awesome character. She explains so much to Kaitlyn and she has such a larger than life personality. She also feels so bad for what was done to Kaitlyn, even when Kaitlyn doesnt even understand why she would be upset in the first place.

“Crying doesn’t hurt. But when you cry, it’s because your heart does.”

Kaitlyn also has the biggest crush on one of the scientists, Lucas. I did not like Lucas at first. It didnt seem real to me. Yeah, he felt really guilty about what was done to Kaitlyn but I just didnt trust him.

“A pulse of current invaded Kaitlyn’s brain, and she straightened up in her seat. It wasn’t painful; it was more of an annoyance. Like a slight buzz between her temples. Maybe even a tickle. She found it somewhat interesting that the test never picked up on her body's awareness of Lucas. Obviously, the computers didn’t know everything.”

She ends up finding an ally in Lucas. Before being sold to the government, Lucas gives her back her memories. After running away and going back to her old hometown she realizes that there is so much more she wants to do than be sold off and treated like she isn't human.

“I don’t want to be just a weapon,” Kaitlyn said firmly. “I want to be a solution,”

“It was amazing that such beauty existed and then there was such ugliness in the world.”

She reminds me of watching Bones. At the beginning, Temperance Brennan didn't make friends easily, was brutally honest and didn't understand normal slang and was constantly saying, "I don't know what that means." That is so much like Kaitlyn. I love watching her learn and grow. Even after Quess suggests putting in a slang chip, she still doesn't understand why some things are said.

Kaitlyn and Erik are sent on a mission to track down Vance Dasvoik, a ruthless monster. His latest thrill—abducting and selling young women.

Vance's current victim: Aaliyah, a seventeen-year-old who never imagined walking her brother home from school one evening would change her life forever.

The mission quickly turns personal for Kaitlyn when she finds Aaliyah beaten, her mind and soul fractured from abuse of the worst kind. Kaitlyn knows firsthand what it's like to be haunted by the past and resolves to bring justice to the elusive Dasvoik.

Let me start by saying, I really realized in this book that these are NOT YA. These books are clearly NA. Not nearly as hardcore as some other NA that I have read but isn't NA just supposed to target that age group? Doesn't mean it has to have crazy amounts of explicit sex in it.

This one was WAY better than than the first one. Kaitlyn is trained to be the best. We see a new character in Erik, who is the best of the best, military wise. They become partners and train together. We also see from Aaliyas point of view as well. Aaliyah is kidnapped and sold into slavery and her side is not pleasant at all. She becomes Dasvoik's favorite and is brutally beaten and raped almost beyond repair. Her story was so heartbreaking and so real.

Kaitlyn is still trying to understand feelings and simple things as small talk. While staying at a remote location with Lucas, Eric, Harrington, Nick and Ace. Ace is an old partner of Eric and Kaitlyn has to deal wih a new feeling, jealousy.

Ace and Nick do not know what she is and trying to act completely human around them is hard for her. Her idea of small talk is bringing up the fact that Ace's wife cant have kids to him.

I can always tell when I really liked a book. I was so into it, I didn't highlight anything! I devoured this book and was so upset that the third one was not out yet!

I give the first one a 3 1/2 star but the second a 5 star.

Show the author some love!!

Sydney offers you this ongoing story of love and friendship in her Danvers series. While each can be read as a standalone, I would suggest you start with Jason and Claire's story in 'Weekends Required' (My Review Here) and then follow it up with 'Not Planning on You' (which is the sassy Suzy and Gray's HEA) and finally you get to meet Beth and Nick in 'Fall for Me.' (My Review Here) But, let's get back to Ella and Declan in Fighting for You.

Declan and Ella have been forming a friendship for some time now that we, as readers, have been able to witness throughout our previous visits to Danvers. Finally, Ella has set her sights on more than friendship with the hunk in the office. (Okay, okay - they are ALL hunks in the office! I am willing to bet the head of HR is a woman who reads her some steamy romance novels!) Innocent Ella thinks her lack of experience is the reason Declan will never see her as more than a friend.

After signing up for a dating service, Declan shows his protective side. He doesn't want to see his "Ellie" get hurt by dating strangers. Protecting her might prove harder than he expects after a run-in with her car.
Lost in her thoughts, Ella almost ran over the man jogging across the driveway of her duplex. Her tires squealed as she missed him by just inches.
Declan decides the only way to protect her is to give her what she is asking for. The man is up front with his intentions and takes things slow from the start.
Ella chuckled. "I can't believe the bad boy of Danvers is telling the church girl of Danvers to keep her hands to herself. No one would ever believe it!"
The slowly progressing relationship between these two is hilarious, accident prone and sexy all at the same time. I didn't even know that was possible. Besides the obvious love that blooms within this romance, the strong friendships that form are my favorite. The girls lunches are a riot and only come second to the HEA's in these books. They are a caring bunch. The love that pours from their hearts for each other is like no other. Friendships like this are priceless. The group is growing as they add Brant's new assistant to the girls group. Emma is too funny with her obvious hatred of her boss. (He even thinks she is trying to poison him with creamer!)
"It looks like someone finally got laid."
Ella whirled around with a guilty look to see a smirking Suzy. "I...ugh...what?"
"Oh come on, Snow White, you don't have to hide it from me. There is only only thing that has a woman high-stepping that much before nine in the morning. Declan finally tapped it, huh?"
Throughout this book, there are some serious wrenches thrown into the mix. Below is a list of some of the awesomeness you will find in this book. (No particular order, and not necessarily pertaining to the main couple in this novel!)
  • Lethal Weapon
  • Hit & Run's
  • Weddings (yep, that is plural)
  • Parents walking in on 'adult time'
  • A lot of talk about "Taking care of yourself"
  • Parenthood
  • The proposal of a lifetime
  • And finally some redneck foreplay
I loved this HEA of two people who didn't think they were enough for the other, when in reality - they were exactly what each other needed. Seeing what they each brought out in one another was heart melting. Before I head off to daydream about one day landing a job at Danvers, I am going to share ONE more part from the book that I adored!
Brant was shaking his head, saying, "Where on God's earth did you learn to drive? You almost killed us three times."
"Well, you should have driven yourself, Mr. Dictaor," Emma huffed. "Oh wait. Your car was blocked in, so you couldn't. Wow, it seems like I did you a favor."
"You call almost killing me a favor," Brant said incredulously.

"F*** me," Declan whispered. "What's wrong with them?"
Jason shook his head while Claire smiled. "I think they're kind of cute."
Ella nodded in agreement.
Suzy raised a brow. "I think is't some kind of redneck foreplay." Gray patted her shoulder and rolled his eyes.

Indiscretion 4 COVER REVEAL

About INDISCRETION: Volume Four
